In the post entitled "Cuban Christmas for Non-Cubans" I metioned the videos produced by Banco Popular as a good source to learn about Puerto Rican music, culture and tradition. I just got their newest DVD, "Raices", and it's awsome!
It takes you through the history and evolution of Bomba and Plena and even explains the different drums and panderos that were used originally. I highly recommend this DVD to anyone interested in Puerto Rican music and culture.
The videos are available at:
Tradicion Musical
This site also has their other videos available. I also have "Guitarra Mia", which is a tribute to Jose Feliciano, and it is excellent. Also, the DVDs have English subtitles for you mono-linguals out there (sorry, I couldn't resist).
