Anyone know where to find columbia lyrics other than the few in the book 'El Canionero Rumbero' which can be found at Batadrums.com? Are there any CDs with any columbia lyrics included in the package? Thanks!

The only columbia with lyrics printed in a CD booklet that I can think of offhand is "Campana de Oro" by Afrocuba de Matanzas on the "Cuba in Washington" CD.

If you come up with any others please let us know.

Are there any columbias in particular you are wanting to learn?

Actually the CD booklet is available online.

(Is the internet amazing or what?)

The CD itself is very good and worth picking up. Not super crazy about the son part, but the changüi is very good, and the guaguancó "Las Leyendas de Grecia" has to be one of ACdM's finest moments. I see all these tracks are available at the iTunes store.

Thanks! Garachon63,
The Cuba in Washington CD - I actually borrowed it from my local library once. If the lyrics were there I over looked them. I thought I had found a real gem of Rumba, until I noticed the other stuff on there. Still its a good CD. Not looking for any columbia's in particular. They are all good to me. I've noticed many of the columbia use Orisha songs as accompaniment. Two of my favorites are on Mongo's CD 'Mongo Santamaria and his Afro-Cuban Drum Beaters' - tracks 7&8. Labeled Caumbia and Columbia. Not sure if those are names. Anyone have this CD. I had not heard of it. Was in a music store ordering some CDs,xxx when I stumbled upon it. The clerk was searching for Mongo's 'Afro Roots' Cd, which I was constantly hearing about when this came up in the search. I like it better than the Afro Roots CD., which I borrowed from a friend not long ago.

SkinDeep, Thanks! I believe I have heard 'Drums and Chants mentioned before.. It appears they are the same recording issued by different labels under different titles. The one I have is titled 'Mongo Santamaria and his Afro-Cuban Drum Beaters- issued by Carney label of Spain in 2003. The CD features Silvestre Mendez, Patato, Candido, Julio Collazo, and Willy Bobo. I'm not familiar with Silvestre can you tell me something about him, and do you know which if any songs are lead by Mongo. Thanks!

Silvestre Mendez - el músico famoso, el embajador de la rumba - TA: the famous musician, ambassador of rumba

LOOK FOR A RECORDING BY HIM NAMED BEMBE ARAGUA
