mysterious circle - odd circle on drum head

Hi all,

Funny question... I just mounted a goatskin on a daholla (a large darbuka), someone got it from India and gave it to me, and I finally put it on instead of the plastic head that came on the drum... Anyway, I cut it from this whole goatskin, a white one, with no markings...

After it was mounted and began to dry, I noticed a faint but perfect circle, about 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter - dead center in the middle of the drum! It's still there. This skin came from no shop, and there was no circle or other mark before I mounted it.
I have mounted many drum heads and never seen this happen before... anyone else seen something like this?

Is my drum haunted?

???

All the best,

Yoni

I think your other half put a nice glass of red wine on your drum for you, and then decided to drink it!! :D :D :D
So long as it isnt hurting the sound.

Good to hear from you again Yoni.

Good to hear from you too, Diceman.

Some other friends did accuse me of putting a cup of coffee or wine on the drum and forgetting about it. :D

I would have to be pretty far gone to put a cup on a drying drum head - and if so, how could I get it dead - center like that? The little circle edge is exactly 11 cm from any point on the outer edge of the drum head.

Bizarre!!

Hi Yoni,
Here is a wild guess: If the new skin is translucent and the drum is metal, could it be a reflection of light from inside the drum?
Best regards,
Jorge

Hi Jorge!

Yes, the drum is metal and the skin almost translucent, but the circle doesn't move if I change the light around; it's really there.

Thanks for the thought, though!

I think it's one of those mysterious "crop circles".

Someone tried to plant a crop on my drum!

Hey JC good to hear from you!

It's definitely some kind of mark on or in the skin, but I didn't see it at all before I mounted it, nor would I have been able to center it so well. I'll have to get milady to snap a pic and post it.

Funny thing, I'll try to post it soon.
