I haven't seen anything posted on this list about this. However, in case you have not heard Patato died on Tuesday Dec. 4 from complications of emphysema. I have no other information. Never the less, his passing is a tremendous loss to our art form.

Abaqua,

Thanks, I don't know how I missed the postings. The LP (Martin C) link was fantastic.

If you don't have this in your collection
I highly recommend it. It's Patato
& Totico with Arsenio rodriguez.
A classic must have for every conguero.

It's been reissued with a new cover
with the very tall Totico standing
next to the diminutive Patato.

Isaac,

If I am not mistaken that cover with Patato sitting next to the tumbadora on the curb is from the bootlegged/pirated recording that was out there for years since the original recording (the one with the cover with a very tall Totico is standing next to Patato) was out of print for years and just made available couple of years ago. No doubt a seminal recording and a must have. The rumor is that "El Saoco Y El Masacote " was so out of this planet that Superman came in dancing "Guaguanco"!

This photo of Patato was taken in Miami...this was a bootleg which i have as well as the original with Patato y Totico standing side by side in Spanish Harlem against a wall...it originally came out on the Verve label then United Artist's and eventually to the bootleg...Johnny Conga.... :D

The red and white conga to the right of Patato is supposed to represent Totico, whom like Patato has Chango made...now why Patato is looking sad...well there is a story behind that one...I had this recording as well, a horrible reissue, with bad sound, no liner notes, nothing...I gave it away when Verve did a reissue that this great recording deserved....and yes if you don't have it yet....you need to

Yes, I can only support your view, Isaac. It´s one of the fantastic old-skool rumba (or how else to call it?) records I love listening to.
