Hi all

I am glad to see all these posts...

When I started this topic I was not expecting so much.

I stick to my quinto center, conga right and tumba left in a triangular shape the point towards me..

I suits me perfectly since I use the quinto and conga the most.

So what if ur right handed so am i but playing to one side to me felt unbalanced for playing...and I was playing 3 congas long before it became 'fashionable"...back in 65 66...and that all the latin bands I was in didn't let me play 3 congas...it wasn't the "mode/style" back then, like it is today...some band leaders tole me to at times just play One conga....well u have to learn to play one before u can play 2 before u can play 3..or all at the same time...

My actual setup :

2 congas
2 tumbas

I use one conga like a quinto (center)
The other conga on my left
First tumba on my right
The other tumba on front

3 drum setup: quinto midlle, tumba left, conga right

set up for funk/ rock band

quinto, with tumba (tuned up a bit) on left. Bongos on stand in front
with bells, blocks and misc. perc on table to left.

I'm a lefty.

I will try the Sakuntu version with djembe in front. Usually the djembe far right. I'm Left handed too.

A lot of left handed players here.

I am rh-player
for latin i put quinto center, tumba right, conga left, all three straight in one line but some music (bembe for instance) i play on just two tubes.
for funk and jazzrock etc tumba and conga change side, another conga behind quinto and tumba (11 clock). I normaly play standing, because i often have to change to smallpercs, timbales or something else.
when i play for myself, i like to play seated. then quinto between legs, rest like above.

My current setup for Reggae/fusion is ....

Conga in middle, Tumba left - tuned low, 2nd Conga front left - tuned down
Bongo on stand...

there seems to be a big difference amongs everyone,
tumba to the right or to the left?
im right handed and play with conga center, tumba right, and super tumba left. or quinto center, conga right, tumba left.
i know its a matter of personal preference for most of us, as to where to place the low drum.
i place the lowest drum to the left because thats the set up i saw the most.
but, one would have to ask, in general is one set up more practical than the other?
or is one setup more practical for afro-cuban/afro caribbean music only?
is the lower end drum the left (for righties) the traditional way?
or is there a traditional way to set up 3 congas?
just curious.

Greetings RH player same as Zun Zun only with 2 congas 1 tumba 1 super tumba i.e. hi conga middle,lo conga left,tumba right,super tumba 12 o'clock

I am using 4 drums at home. The Quinto in middle, Conga to my left, Tumba to my right and Super Tumba in front. I do like to change it from time to time. When I preform I use two drums Conga in middle and Tumba to my right.

I either play 2 or 4 congas, rarely 3. The choice is often a matter of transportation capacity or simply idleness. I play Latin Jazz mostly. When I play straight-ahead Salsa, 2 drums are generally enough for me.

My setup looks like: macho in the middle, hembra to the right, a medium size "segunda" at my left, and a real deep sounding tumbadora in front in the middle (for an iyá sound or a bombo function). I am a right handed player.

Sometimes I use a weird setup with the standard pair of macho and hembra, but a real quinto in front and a real iyá at my right, behind the hembra.

I haven't had the chance to take a photo so far.
