Sorry i didnt know and dont know anyone in the New Swing Sextet...in the 60's and 70's there were hundreds of latin bands in all 5 boroughs of New York City...if u did a gig opposite a band like the NSS that is how u met the musicians, but if u never did, or didnt live in "their hood",u wouldnt necessarily know who they were... here are the names of bands I was in at that time How many of you have ever heard of these bands? and i was in all of these bands in a 3 year period...65-68....and the flyer/poster was typical of those days ...

Great dances, I used to walk to the St George, from my house, used the indoor pool there and did a couple of gigs there in the bar. I remember the Corso but in later years after the reign of the Cheetah. If you guys want posters you can get them from The artist who created them and who MC'd many of the dances back then, Izzy Sanabria. He also designed and drew many of the album covers for Vaya, Fania, and Alegre among others. His site is www.salsamagazine.com classic and historic check it out.

Man i miss the Bronx Rumba...jammin at the beach we used to jam at back in the 60;s and 70's still going strong today...Cuba is in the Bronx!... \

JC yeah, that's a typical Orchard Beach rumba. Some Cubans go, but it is mostly Boricua and Dominican. Viejo on quinto and Tito on tres dos are both Dominican.

Here is a clip of some of the Cuban rumberos playing in the Bronx at a club we used to play at, Manny's on Westchester Ave. Diosvany on tumba/cajon, Matanzas on tres dos, Medina on quinto for the first part. Diosvany came from one of the Habana schools of guarapachangueo, learned from Marquito Diaz, Michel Aldama, etc.
