Bataleros?

Forum fully dedicated to the instrument

Postby tamboricua » Wed Apr 07, 2004 8:05 pm

To the bataleros in the forum,

Recently found the attached picture somewhere on the internet, and I'm trying to identify the batá players in the picture. It seems to me, that this shot was taken during the Fernando Ortíz famous books documentations. Does anyone recognize the drummers in the attached picture?

gracias,

Jorge Ginorio

According to my research this could have been in relation to the presentation which was done in relation to Yuruba's music in 1934-6, by Dr. Fernando Ortiz. This could be the line up,Pablo Roche(Iya),Aguedo Morales(Itotele),Jesus Perez(okonkolo).

that sounds about right, because Jesus Perez, and Pablo Roche were associated with that presentation...you know it would have been nice to chat with those guys...
