“Sale, loco de contento con su cargamento para la ciudad…….para la ciudad…”
¿Cómo esta mi gente?
Espero que todos esten bien y en muchas bendiciones mis hermanos!

I'm very much a visual person, I need to see techniques performed in order to grasp their concept, then try it, and get feedback as to whether I'm doing it right or not. Does this make me "hi-maintenance?" :D

I wish I had spent my youthful years in music school learning the techniques of music reading. Are there instructional videos/dvds that would cover batarumba/bata techniques?

¿ay cariño o no ay cariño?

Onile!

Onile!

Onile,

Saludos hermano! Some that come to mind are by:

Afrocuba de Matanzas. They did a video series on batá drumming for Orisha Productions a while ago.
I have seen some short clips, but not the whole thing.

Michael Spiro and Jesus Díaz cover a little bit on batá on their Talking Drum video.

Also Kim Atkinson on his Mozambique instructional series do a very hip fusion of Pello's Mozambique with the batá adaptation known as Rumba Iyesá. On this one you can watch our own forum member David Peñalosa on Itótele. Hope this helps!

Saludos,

Jorge Ginorio
