New Bata Drums made by Volcano Percussion in Hawaii.

Hello CongaPlace,

Here are some photos of the New Bata Drums made by Volcano Percussion in Hawaii. The First set ever made by master builder Thomas Alexander. Made from African Mahogany with abalone shell and metal flake sprayed into the finish. Biscuit jointed staves. Handmade Stainless steel hardware buffed to a mirror finish with S.S. backing plates inside. Goat skin heads.

Yes he uses biscuit jointed staves to be sure the drums are strong and will stay togeather. To my knowledge he has never had a shell come apart. Volcano Percussion shells are very strong and Mr Thomas Alexander is a master builder. You should really try his drums . You will love them.

This is what can happen if he did not use them. I Think they call this problem spring back. So yes he uses biscuit jointed staves on every drum he makes to be sure his drums are strong and will never have a spring back problem. I am glad he does. In fact this was one of the reasons I chose to own Volcano Percussion Congas. Worth every penny. Just ask anyone that ever owned or played on a Volcano Percussion Drum. Beautiful drums, unquestionable - Exotic woods, unquestionable - Fantastic sounding, unquestionable - Super strong, unquestionable,

I'm probably in a minority here, but personally I've never cared for the look or sound of Volcano congas. Just doesn't do it for me.

I'm sorry to be Mr. Negative, popping up in this thread with an unsolicited opinion. I just wanted to illustrate how when it comes to matters of opinion, such as visual and aural aesthetics, nothing is ever "unquestionable".

I've only heard the volcano drums on internet video. They sound quite nice to me, and of course they are completely amazing looking!
Those bata look to be sacred objects that some collector will snatch up. Sure would like to hear them live!

I've played one set that a friend of mine has, and also I've heard the drums in online videos as well as Volcano's website. The sound they have just isn't my personal preference.
Presently, I play a set of LP Originals with fiberskyns (gag). They were my first set (I've only played congas for about 2 1/2 years). But I'm anxiously awaiting a set of Islas right now, which hopefully I'll be acquiring within the next month. I know I'm going to love them as much as you love your Volcanos.
