Bought a Cuban bata set

Postby Firebrand » Mon Nov 03, 2008 3:49 pm

I lucked out guys. I saw a posting in Atlanta Craiglist

A hand-made, metal-hoops, awesome dimensions, (made by friends of an apprentice babalawo) Aberikula set of 3 batas for....wait for it....$300.00! Can't get a better deal than that. Only the Iya has no heads...but I can replace them easily.

How's THAT for a deal. The dimensions were verified as being good by my bata teacher, Victor "Papo" Sterling. The owner was an American percussion student who had bought them while in Havana...but rarely got to use them.

When I get them, I will post pictures on this thread.

i wanted to share my joy at having my own set.

Incidentally, what do you guys use to organize the 3 batas in a pyramid fashion? Is the LP Bata Stand the only product out there, or is are there cheaper alternatives?
