Guys,

Can anyone provide me with suggested tunings for the chacha and enu please. I carry one of those chromatic wind pipes with me in my percussion bag (I use it for drums and conga tunings), and I'd like to be able keep my Bata set sounding nice.

Okonkolo Chacha - ?
Okonkolo Enu - ?

Itotele Chacha - ?
Itotele Enu - ?

Iya Chacha - ?
Iya Enu - ?

Don't quote me, but I don't really think there's a particular note for the bata. Keep in mind that fundamentos are not mass produced. Each set is naturally going to sound different. Daniel Alfonzo talks about this in the Matanzas DVD. Also, they're not mechanically tuned, which makes it a whole other headache to get an exact tuning.

I say just get the chas in a good spot without being too high, and get the enus for the oconcolo and segundo to resonate. Keep in mind how much the tuning on the heads affect one another.

The caja is a whole other animal. Still working on that one.

Here's a nice video that I think can guide you in your tuning quest.

That's Mark Powers from this forum on the okonkolo I think.
Stop tapping your foot Mark! :)

Seriously nice work and what an honour for you to play in such company. Thanks for letting us see it.
