You need to get the clip/file hosted online to a site, then link the url of the file (online) to the forum, where it can be viewed or downloaded.

Hmm... me thinks you deserve this now :p  :D

Electronic tuners? What ever happened to having a good ear?

One ear?? Just kidding Abakua!! I agree gottta learn how to crawl, walk, before running. Good to hear you learned the right way-all the way to keeping up your drums. sometimes I see cats with drums interrible condition. Tuning, many don't tune at all, with streatched out skins and all. sheesh!! How the heck do they get the gig?

Anyway that remark to JC was cold bro!! But I'm sure he won't take it personally.
JC, you cant' even post a MP3. The site does not recognize the format. Plus I don't know if the server has that much room if we all started posting stuff.. But if the file is stored somewhre else, you can make a direct link to stream:

well, it may not be dope, but I use a chromatic cello tuning pipe when I just can't seem to get 'em sounding right. (it's a circular chrome thing, with a rotating plastic mouth piece which you move to the required note).

I always start with the highest drum and work my way down, then usually have to come back for a bit of fine-tuning. One thing I've found with tuning is that to hit the right note, you often end up going past it, and then find it easier afterwards with a little slackening of the head. works for me anyway.

El Boni,

Did you get the cello tuning idea from Robin Jones?

There seem to be two schools of thought here, those that tune their principal drum to where it sounds ok (sweet spot) then sort out the interval by ear (old Skool???), and those that tune their drums to actual notes, by either tuning all drums or tuning one drum to pitch, then do the others by ear using 'Here comes the bride', 'Oye Como Va' or 'Afro Blue' principle.
I have to say I am 'Nu Skool' in that case and in my view, there is nothing worse than a set of congas, which are not only out of tune with each other (which I think we all agree), but also out of tune with true pitch, which we dont all agree on.

Im all for perfect harmony in the world

Terreon Gully and Pedro "Pedrito" Martinez - "Between Friends" clip at congahead.

http://www.congahead.com/Movies/menu_list.html (29th down)

at about 2:50 into the clip Pedrito starts a 3 conga pattern which allows you to hear the tones.

95% sure that my ear is right - G, B flat, C

If nothing else .. it's a great jam! :)

One little detail to add. You will often find that when you tilt your drum, especially the quinto it sounds higher in pitch. Therefore don't forget to tune it in tilted position or it will be out of tune when you play.

tone :O

Diceman we got to get together soon. Any good gigs coming up we should go see?

Well I tried to get my quinto to the same sound as Pedro its hard from a clip I think I got it close, Im not trying to sound like anyone dont get the wrong Idea just trying to make sure Im tuning close to the right way. I play trumpet as well and its easy to match notes on a wind instrument, I find it really hard to match them from a drum for some reason. I just want to make sure I tune my drums equil to the first in the right incraments --<spelling> is all im trying to do. I cant end up tuning with a good ear if I dont start off on the right leg :p git my drift.

Diceman - yeah, I did get the cello tuning pipe idea from Robin Jones! I had lessons with him for a couple of years from about '97 to '99 (or '96 to '98?, it's all a bit grey to be honest!)

How's he doing, have you heard from him recently?

I had a sneaking suspicion I might know you, but I don't know anyone who looks that much like Mr Spock.

But Mr. Spock the tuning pipe has been corrupted due to the misalignment of the spacetime continueum.
