R: stands for right conga (also right hand)

Also the Bossa Nouva could be follow with the Basic tumbao for Cha-Cha,Which is an old way to play it in Congas.

Yes Mongo was leading the Conga troup in the U.S. A. for several years, also to point out that by the time he came to the U.S. I think the 50's the Bossa Nouva was getting force in the Jazz field so he got the opportunity to incorporate those patterns. Also the 6/8 time signature pattern,(Afro-Blue song).

Here it is again ...and one(palm-slap) tone tone tone
and -one low -high-low.repeat .is it working yet? accenting on the tones...Let me know ok, it's really very simple to do. But you also have to be able to hear it in that form of Bossa Nova swing...Hope it helps...At your Service...JC JOHNNY CONGA... :;):

I tried it with the low notes coming in on 3 and 4, and it seems to fit, but not sure. Seems like these low tones should be accents.

h t o o O o O t

Also tried a variation with 16th notes on first quarter of measure:

oohts t O o O t

From Johnny's description, I wonder if the low tones should be on 3+ and 4+ (like the Bolero) instead of 3 and 4? ???
