All right, Johnny! That seems to be the key that I was missing. Counting in 2 instead of 4 makes it work now. I am accenting the ones ( the slap and the first low tone). Is that right?

Here's what I'm doing now: s o o o O o O t

That last t is just a touch to keep time and cut the slap.

Man, I'm totally confused JC.
1 & 2 & 1 & 2 &
H T S T H O CONGA
O O TUMBA
L L R L L R R R
Where do I Accent to make this rythm a BOSSA? Also, am I counting it right? Thanks Rocky

If I understood him right, and he answered that it was, the slap is the first "1" and the first tumba tone is second "1", and these are the accented notes. Putting it in your format, it would look like this:

1 & 2 & 1 & 2 &
S O O O O H CONGA
O O TUMBA

Of course, looping it puts the palm note (H) in front of the slap (& 1)

Johnny, are you there to confirm or correct this?

Thanks JR, I think I may have a handle on it now. I'm still new at this and see for the most part black and white. Don't understand the grey areas too much.
I played some this morning for the first ime in a couple of months. Man, it felt good - like seeing an old friend again. :D
