This forum never ceases to amaze me in all of the excellent info that gets passed around. Kudos to you all!

I have been searching for some practice music from Ray Barretto but am quite overwhelmed by the selection out there. What are your best recommendations/favorites/must have CD's that can be found? I have heard that Que Viva La Musica is one of his best. Is the Best of Ray Barretto really that?

BTW... Anybody looking for some classic funky stuff to practice to should check out Average White Band. Sammy Figueroa is pretty repititous in his patterns but opens up occasionally and shows some stuff. The Live at Montreux DVD is fun to watch. :cool:

You are so right about Indestructible, it smokes!

G-Man,
I would also definitely recommend Ray Barretto: The Message. You might have some difficulties finding it but trust me, it'll be worth it. One of my favorite tracks I like to practice with is Arrepientete and Flor De Los Lindos Campos from this album. I tune up my drums, put on my headphones, and it's on!

Man, I wish Ray and Mongo had made a few Videos/DVDs to show us their secrets and techniques.
For me, if I can watch and hear a player play, I can learn the rhythm a lot faster.
