Mico, welcome to the forum. You got a lot on your plate Man! I appreciate your enthusiasm. lets take it one step at a time. First i'd say that if you want to learn to play a style other than latin jazz, start listening to a bunch of styles. Listen to what the congas are doing in that style (if there is a conguero) and if theres not, listen to what the kit players playing. That will give you an idea of how to approach new rhthyms. Have you watched any conga videos etc.? I would recommend that. its helped me so much to see how others appraoch the drums and music. I learn alot just be watching and listening. I will help you too. The more you put in you, the more will come out of you...(what you sow you'll reap kinda thing). So start filling your head with music and focus on the simple stuff first thats the foundation-the complex stuff will come with time. good luck!
