Nope, never had a problem with standard rims or comfort curbves. I found --for myself-- that if my technique was right, it didn't really matter what the rims were. Whether standard or comfort rims the hand impact area (esp for slaps) should be along the curved edge of the shelll without interference the mounting rim. I play two Ardientes with comforts and one old LP tumba from the 70's with a standard.

The situation with the original rims are based in the extension of the skin,(if the rims are low enough, it would not affect the hands to much, but if they are close to the top,it could create some pain)..Dr. Zaragemca

Zara,

I stand slightly corrected. You are right if the mounting rims are very close to or even with the head, it could be a problem IF your technique is slightly off.

ITS NOT PAIN IM SPEAKING OF IT IS JUST THAT PLAYING CLOSE TO THE EDGE OF THE RIM WHEN DOING SLAPS AND ROLLS THE RIMS WERE GETTING IN MY WAY AND THE HEADS ARE NEW SO THE RIM IS REALLY UP HIGH ON THE HEAD,BUT NEW OR OLD HEADS THOSE COMFORT CURVE 2 RIMS ARE ANGLED LOW SO THEY WORK BETTER FOR ME

I have comfort 2 on my conga and tumba and the original comfort on my quinto. Honestly I can get a more consistant sound out of the quinto and I like the feel of playing it better than the comfort 2s. I would prefer the old traditional rims on all my drums, but they definitly kill your hands if you aren't used to them.
