Ive been noticing that the young cats today are playing guiro/bembe like they were riffing on quinto, especialy when playing agbe. I love that shit , however you gotta love how old school players layed down bakoso with those beautiful phrases.
I remember John Amira telling me to take a simple riff and turn it into a musical statement concluding with a resolution.
Here's SOME of my favs from the old school.............
Riff : MMO-TM]-MO-TO]O
STATEMENT & RESOLUTION: MMO-TM]-MO-B-]MMO-BM]MMO-B-]MTO-TM]-MO-BO]O
Riff: O-TBO-]BS-BMM]O
STATEMENT & RESOLUTION : O-TBO-]BBOO-T]BO-BBO]O-TB-O]-OO-MM]O
