Wow, if you can post such a long list for sure you can also post the notation of some of the rhythms and list some songs where they are used? That would be great. Thanks in advance.

SALSEROLINESE, THANKS!

BUT THAT'S ONE AREA THAT I'M AFRAID I CAN'T HELP YOU WITH.
I DON'T READ, OR WRITE MUSIC, I DON'T EVEN MESS WITH NOTATIONS. I GUESS THAT IS A SHORTCOMING OF MINE.

BUT I CAN SURELY PLAY THEM ALL, AND WITH PROPER TECHNIQUE. I JUST APPLY THEM AS REQUIRED. I PLAY BY EAR, FEEL, AND HEART!

I LEARNED TO PLAY THESE RHYTHMS FROM MY TEACHERS, AND AT THE RUMBA'S.
PLEASE LOOK AT MY PROFILE UNDER ELCOQUI AT THE MYCONGAPLACE ROSTER.

RESPECTFULLY,
CHARLIE "EL COQUI" VERDEJO

Well, being able to play is much better than being able to write it down. Maybe you can post a video or a recording? It would be an honour for me if I could help you to write them down afterwards.

Charlie, :)

Wow!!! What a list, Bro!

I knew I wasn't wrong in giving you a "5" rating! I've learned so much from you and, like a sponge, continue to learn a lot from you.

I'm very much honored and blessed indeed to have you as a friend, but even more so as "mi hermano verdad"!

Con mucho respecto y muy sinceramente, :D

JC, congamyk, salseroberlinense & yambu321,

Did I miss anyone? If so, my apologies.

Anyhow, bravo to you all for your inputs in coming up with the most comprehensive list of conga rhythms that I've ever seen!

It's very educational and only shows how little I know and how long a way I still have to go. But, I'm very passionate about Latin percussion, especially congas, bongos and timbales). I'm highly motivated to get there soon and, thank God, I'm a fast learner! :D

As far as I know, in danzón the congas only play in the "cha cha chá" part.? Merengue Haitiano is different from the Dominican Merengue as well, right? What is the difference between afro son and changing from afro to son? In how far do guajira and son basic rhythms differ? Furthermore, I did not know that there was a basic rhythm called charanga, but it is listed by the congaplace congabook. Does anyone have a musical example where that is played? The congabook has notation for some more basic rhythms, but some of ours are missing. Some can be found at youtube or in the video archives here. Let's move on with our collection.

Bossa Nova
Calypso
