Quinto-Conga Tumba ?
Tumba-Conga-Quinto ?
Conga-Quinto-Tumba?

How do you set up from left to right? Why?
Does it depend if you are right or left handed?
Is the Conga typically in the middle and primary regardless if you have a 2pc or 3pc set?
How about a 2 pc set up preference?

Thanks Mike. I have a Meinl string Cajon and Bongo Cajon. I notice even with bongos that the quinto is primary also.
So likely in a two piece set up you would still use the quinto in front and conga or tumba to your right assuming your right handed or does that really matter?

Sure thing! But in order to become ambidextrous, I sometimes practice with tumba on the left.

Two drums is usually conga tumba, I thinkt some guys might do conga and conga, but for me its conga in
front and tumba right, 3 drums it's quinto on the left, conga in the middle and tumba on the right. I only
play one rhythm with 3 drums though, bembe bakoso.

I alternate, quinto close, conga in front, tumba on right. I like to play guaguanco like that

to, conga close, quinto infront (used much less, just for accents etc) tmba on right, this I prefer for salsa, funk etc. (although many times with this set up I hardly use the quinto)

I've actually had a change of heart. I was a die hard conga/tumba set up but now I'm more quinto/conga.
If you use only 2 drums the standard for salsa is conga/tumba.

You guys are great!`Well, I just ordered a set of LP aspire congas 3 pc. set 11" 11 3/4" and 12" with stands so I will get to test out all these different options!! Ya ha!!! Rookie player
So would the 11" still be called the Quinto in this set being that it is the smallest and the 11 3/4" is now the Conga?

I mostly find it a matter of tuning - come on, is size what really matters?

yup, it's all about the tones you want.

2 or 3 note samba.... play the notes you know.

I guess I will play the 11" drum in front and place the 12" to my right and the 11" 3/4" to my left...

I always have my quinto in center.
When I play with 2 drums, I have my conga or tumba diagnolly to the right.
With 3, I have the tumba to the right and the conga to the left.
With 4, I tune them like patato (F-E-Bb-C) and then I have the supertumba to the left, the tumba to the right, the conga in the middle, and as said the quinto between my legs...
I guess its really individual what people like, but that's what works for me

This also is working better for me. The 11" quinto is to small of a face for my large hands and I don't have room to play some of mthe heel/tip variations. So the congo works better in front for me with the quinto to the left and the tumba on the right.
