What is a good and groovy conga pattern U can play with Miriam Makeba´s "Pata pata"?
Does not have to be the original.
Thx in advance.

I found some telling stuff here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-VrfadKbco (old version)
and some more recent there:

So I guess anything goes with a blend of son patterns like this one

and more African-oriented, freer styles.
On a recording I have an interesting double-time conga pattern towards
the end, but cannot figure it out precisely.

I would use just straight forward son or chachacha marcha as a basis and improv from there as appropriate.

Additionally try to play the base/tip softer than you would in a salsa situation thereby accentuating the melody of the open tone and slap and see how it feels.

I just tried Tomas Cruz songo pattern over it and it sounded great.

THanks for the replies, guys!

I have also tried an Afro-pattern.
