Conga Book Rudiments 1 Question

On this site, in the CongaBook, Rudiments 1, bottom of the page--the last rudiment has a low-drum open ® followed by a slap (L). Would this slap be an 'open' slap (at least for a beginner)?
I'm playing just one drum, too, and I can't do a rh open followed by a lh slap that's closed. Just looking for how most folks would try to play these 1/16ths. Thanks.
