One of my latest projects after “getting” the quinto lock, has been to incorporate some rudimentary cross patterns that lead back into the quinto lock. A friend of mine just days ago showed me how the abakua-bell, bonko-like triplets can lead back into the lock.

Ioo-oooI-ooo-oI

So, if you “start” on the pickup before the ONE then you can go a full clave cycle to lead back into the lock spot (1&)

The closest thing to this that I have seen in your book is on p. 87, displaced cross pattern where a series of slap flams lead to the triplet segments mentioned above.
Anything to add here? Also, I'm presently learning how to insert an (e) before (&u), or change a 6/8 pattern into a 4/4. This is so much practice to grow only small amounts.. :| trying to combat impatience!

You can experiment with playing an abstraction of the alternating lock by using that abakua bell pattern:

O | O O . S S S . O O O . S | S S . O O O . S S S . O |

O | O . . S S . . O O . . S | S . . O O . . S S . . O |

Duple-pulse correlative:

O | O . O . S . S S . . O O O . . S | S . S . O . O O . . S S S . . O |

My pleasure!

(When you get comfortable, modulate from triple to duple-pulse.)

Just looked this up on Amazon, are the only mp3s to be made available for chapters 3A and 3B? That is all that is currently available on Amazon for this book.
