What is the pattern on the Willie Colon/Hector Lavoe track La Murga. What Rhythm is it? Where is it from? What are the other percussion parts?

Sounds like a Cumbia pattern to me.

So, no rules to be broken then? If I just use my ears and get the basic pattern down then I'm not gonna offend any tradition? It does sound like a cumbia but all on one drum, and fairly inconsistent, lot of variations that don't seem to follow a particular pattern. Cheers for advice guys. I might transcribe it and post it!

This tune was originally released on Willie Colón & Hector Lavoe, Asalto Navideño Vol.1 around early 70's. The tumbador on it is the legendary Milton Cardona. The pattern Milton used is a combination of stick and a bare hand, very similar to what the tumbadoras will do on Juanito Marquez Ritmo Pa'cá. I'll see if I get the chance to notate it sometime soon.

Hope this helps!!!

Merry Christmas,

The Original of this song was Los Fabulosos Cadillacs Willie and Hector copied from here. And made it a big hit.
