Hi folks,
4 years ago today the the country of Haiti experienced a terrible earthquake. Haiti is very near to me and my family so i wanted to share some of the musical culture with you in relation to conga rhythms. Konpa has been the popular dance rhythm of Haiti since the late 50's. Heres a youtube video i made demonstrating my interpretation of a basic Konpa conga rhythm. There aren't many out there on youtube so thats what made me decide to make one. Its rhythm very similar to the dominican merengue onl played a bit slower and "looser". the conga rhythm is said to give the music a "swaying " feel. Enjoy!

for more info on Konpa, check out Gage Avrills book: A Day for the hunter a day for the Prey.

Sakuntu,

This is great, and further expands the rhythmic horizons. Thanks a bunch for posting this. I'll be playing around with it.
