Tuning 4 Congas

Postby torpedo tom » Sat Feb 08, 2014 12:17 am

I have 4 LP red Patatos, quinto, conga, and two tumbas. I set them up playing the quinto in the main position, conga to my left, tumba in front, and other tumba on my right. I would like to tune them to specific notes so what notes should I tune them to considering the quinto is #1, conga #2, front tumba #3 and right tumba #4? Thanks, TT

A nicely sounding tone combination is (from high to low):
C -Bb - G - F
That does not necessarily mean these exact tones but
I find this a nice Latin Jazz setup, you can generally play two fourths,
e.g. c-g and b-f. Just my two cents, there are other ways to tune of course.
Peace & drum

This is a nice mode for 3 congas also (C -Bb - G)
but what if you want to add bongo instead of the 4'th conga to that set ?
Do you "connect" macho and/or hembra to congas' mode ? What notes if so ?
