So big filled in circle = palm [or heel if you prefer]
Small filled in = tip
open circle with x = slap
and open circle = open tone

good to know if I even encounter that program again.

Thanks guys

Just download and try to play a bit. I believe you will like it.
It's very easy to understand even without manual reading or help :)

This is a thread diversion and has nothing to do with Eddie Montalvo's tumbao variation, but it is relevant to our answers to your question. So to avoid hijacking the thread, I have started a new thread on Percussion Studio software, but I am posting my same questions here to try to get those of you who know about Percussion Studio to go see the other thread.

I looked at the website but still don't understand what Percussion Studio software does. Does it directly transcribe a phrase that you play on real congas into the notation system shown above? Do you have to record the congas into a wav file first and then run Percussion Studio on the wav file? Do you have to manually sequence sampled sounds to produce a rhythm?
Can someone please explain what it does and what a conga player could use it for?

Please don't answer here, but go to the new thread and answer there.

Hi Jorge, I hope all is well.

Percussion Studio is a web-based drum machine for percussion.

I used it a lot, to check my own hand written transcriptions. It is not perfect, as Afro-Cuban is not straight 4/4 or 12/8.

I also use it as a practice tool, by programming parts to different rhythms (minus 1).

But again, as I have slowly progressed in this music it has lost a bit of its usefulness and the clave and other time keepers seem a little to "square" and lack the proper feeling.
