Does anybody know this drummer?

Postby Thomas Altmann » Fri Jun 12, 2020 9:33 am

Hi everybody,

on my YT-research for güíro-caja styles I found this clip, published by both Jeremie Nassif and (later) Pedro Barriera. None of them credited the drummer. My idea was that it might be more effective to ask this forum than to place a question on their comment sections:

Nice playing, anyway.

Thanks, and greetings -
Thomas

It seems to be Javier Campos Martínez, a Cuban guy living in France, I believe in Marseille.

I attended a masterclass with him a few years ago, and bought his instructional DVD for rumba.

Here some further links (in French, sorry) :

Thank you, Chtimulato! It's clearly him. I have been aware of him for years. I suppose he was in Holland before; at least he recorded with flutist Mark Alban Lotz. I just couldn't recognize his face, although he looked somehow familiar to me.

Thanks again,
Thomas

Yes, he did indeed.
It's stated in this link https://www.journalventilo.fr/identites-remarquables-javier-campos-martinez/
I summarize and translate : he took part to masterclasses in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, where he was invited by Mark Lotz, and settled down then in Paris in 1990.
And he's now based in Marseille (he was at least last year, as the article was written). The link I gave you is of a culturel "webzine" in Marseille.

BTW, I happen to know (virtually) the lady who wrote the article.

That's all for today, folks.

Stay safe and have a nice weekend everybody.
