Hi there
ok, so i shaved ( scrapped in fact ) the hairs of my new nice skin as told in one of the previous topic. ( thanks for the previous advices by the way)
NOW, PROBLEM IS :(
some (very) annoying small bits of hair keep on popping up... they are like a fifth or sthg of millimiter, the part of the hair which is under the skin surface ( roughly the same kind than those you get a few hours after having shaved face...), and they keep on popping, popping, popping up......
anyone an advice? cause it's quite unpleasant to play like this, have to sand my skin after each song ??? , and anyway i know it can be quite unhealthy ( the hairs can get under your skin and give you an infection...)
out of despair, i'm soon going to consider ladies' hair removing cream (depilatory ) which is i think gonna be a very bad idea.... :p
thanks all,
cheers,
david.

hi,
i scrapped the skin, shave it with a razor is apparently not recommended... even though i tried :D but it didnt work, apparently because the surface is a bit irregular.
(i mounted a goat skin on a djembe once and had no problem at all....)...
cheers,

Captaindobbe!

I don't have an experiences with hairs on drum skin, but have you tried to gently(don't push two much pressure, not to damage skin!) scrap the surface of a skin with a rough (not like a glass) stone, in an opposite way of hair growing, changing also in a round way. To bring up all the hairs and remove them? Put a drum to a sun first for hour or two. It may be a three hour or more job, but should work...

Hope it helps, tell if so!

You can try also with a scrap paper, but again, don't give too much pressure, just sliding over in the opposite way of hair growing!

BTW, is it possible that the skin is not dried enough?

Hey that is very funny if i say so myself. Hair popping up hahahahahaha ....... wow . That means that the follicles are still alive .......right ? I say it is not dried or better put curred properly . Put them the skins out to dry some more until you see that there is no more growth . the follicles can not put that much more hair out. If that does'nt work you'll have some very unusual special drums..........

good luck

Hi captain

Here are a few tricks for you

When you shave a skin, apply foam, just like for your face. Then use a real rasor blade and not a razor. It is perfectly OK to shave skins, nothing wrong with that.
Always shave the skin when wet and shave it agains the hair (across the implantation of the hair). You will quickly get used to the blade and you'll find it very fast and efficient. You want to hold the blade between you thumb and index finger and major finger giving enough pressure for the blade to bend a bit. Give and angle to the blade and don't be shy using 2 to 3 inches motions at a time.
I shaved herds of skins in my life and once you get the trick right, there is no problem with shaving anymore.
BUT, it always stays some hair (and this is your problem) If the skin is still wet, use sand paper and finish with the sand paper that is used par car painter, the one you wet before using it. This will remove everything from your skin. If the skin is dry, use the same very fine sand paper (after using rougher one) but keep it dry. The sanded hair will transfor into thin powder that you want to remove from the surface of the skin. this prevents the sand paper from sanding after a while.

I hope this is helping you. Anyway, it is always good to use REAL skins and suffer a bit to mount it.

Now, guys, please check PLAPATA.COM, this is the press kit of my future website. Send me your comments.

See ya.

salut Akdom, Hi all....
ok, thx you all guys for all the comments...
which are all good... unfortunately, i've shaved herds of real skins before as well, and it's the first time I got this problem.... i talked to some other experienced guys, and they never heard as well of such weirdness...
think i'm gonna have my skin dry for another couple of weeks, then re-soak it, re-place it and re-shave it...
we'll see then...
thanx again to all you guys,
salut de beijing, chine...
