I'm in a little Dilema at the mo. I've only been playing Congas now for about 4 years... and I've Owned 2 sets of Congas... A really Cheap set of Meinl and a set of LP Aspire....I currently use the Aspires for tours around Australia, and I now feel as if I have out grown them... I need to upgrade.
I've had an Offer for Matadors a Quinto a Conga and a Tumba, Matching Bongos and stands all for Aus$2700.
The Other offer I have is with the Galaxy. A Quinto and Conga, Matching Bongos, cases and stands for Aus$2880
Now I've never played on three congas before and not too sure wether I'd need to at the mo....
i need to make a decision pretty soon as I'm recording in the next couple of weeks... I never ever want to buy another set again... So what do I do...How different are these two models...?
The Matadors are inferior to the LP Galaxy's. LP features much better designed bodies, hardware and skin selection. Galaxy's sounds like a good deal, LP are great drums that will last, however for my playing I choose not to use a quinto, but rather 2 congas and 1 tumba. I prefer the larger size drums. If you want top quality, I would go LP.
I notice you are in Sydney.. Me too. Which brings me to my next point.......
I recently upgraded to 3 LP Palladium series congas and LP Collapsible cradle stands, with a fourth to follow soon.
I also have 3 x LP Classic's for sale with stands. $1300 cash and they are yours!
The bodies have some battle scars as they have been with me for almost 10 yrs, however in good strength and shape. I have 2 new skins on the congas and the skin on the tumba is 1 yr old and in very good condition. Skins always tuned down after use to preserve skin quality and shape and strength of drum. They sound great also and are drums that will last anyone a life time. I upgraded to new ones as a result of a recent tour and partial endoresment.
$1300 for 3 Congas with stands!! 2 x 11.75" Congas and 1 x 12.5" Tumba and stands to suit. Now there's a great deal!!
PM me in you are interested, you can come and view them.
With the money left over, you have more than enough for cases and the bongo with stand of your choice. I will even go in with you to the drumstore Ive used for over 15 yrs and get you a good deal on the LP equipment of your choice.
Cheers.
Pic below: (If curious as to how sturdy the stands are, I am an agressive player and the stands hold the drums in position perfectly.)
Thank you so much for your response. I like those Congas in the photo, but I have decided I really wanna get a set of new congas....The wood grain shells of my Aspires where like those in your picture and I brought them back to wood straighted out all the divets and made them Purple sparkle...So I don't really wanna go through that again. But thanks heaps for the offer.
Actually You and me have rubbed shoulders noumerous times in Billy hydes, I saw the photos of you and your band and I recongnised you from the shop...small world ha?
I think i'll go for the Galaxy deal...Which isn't really that much of a deal... It actually came to $3080 but Billys will do it for $2880. I'll be using them in a Heavy Groove/dance band along with Djembes, Timbales and hand percussion. So I think I want them to save space, that's why I wont go Conga and Tumba. So I'll take your advice on the Galaxy's I think....
Ha! Small world my friend. How is it you remembered me?
No worries, IM trying to sell these babies now.. Just so you know, the Classic's model (the ones Im selling) are from LP's top of the line series congas, far superior hardware, shells and skins. The Aspire are of entry level drums.
Great choice with the Galaxy's, they are a very good quality drum. You are getting the wood ones right? Not the fibreglass one, am I right?
Make sure you inspect the skins, if you are not happy with them, you can change them around with stock they hold. If you are comfortable with this go for it, if you would like assistance or a second opinion, let me know, Id be happy to help you out. PS, I can prob get you a better deal there. :;):
.. sir just to respond to you question..:.. i am a leader of a Latin jazz ensemble, i play all percussions such as djembe cajon. congas bongo, bell and shakers. i have 2 sets of congas my first set 3 L.P Galaxy's model. i have 2 congas and a tumbadora with remo nuskyn. in Latin Jazz there is no need for a quinto . i use these drums to play more in a out=door venue or any club where the music is unplugged, and the room is carpet these drum have a very loud projection. i always felt that the Galaxy 's model is tailor made from the Patato model the best fiberglass drum around for years is this particular drum that set the standard for all the other fiber-glass drums to follow.. i also have a pair of wood drum by Pearl. conga- tumbadora with mule head skins.i use these drum for rehearsals and very small intimate gigs such as supper clubs. they sound awesome and they have a very warm sound... i think most working percussionist alway should have 2 set of congas a pair of fiber-glass and wood. one thing i have notice that when playing the fiber=glass drums with the remo head you really have to control the sound due to overtones, but the more you play the better you get in terms of your dynamics.
Hey thanks for the respones... I've made a dessicion.....
I got a great deal on a set of Accents, which are Galaxy's with a strange but relativaley cool paint job..Because of the deal I can't go past them. A set of quinto and conga and matching Bongos and stands all for $2000..... Does this sound ok... I'll prolly be buying them end of this week.. So if this is really bad please let me know by them...
Again thank for the replies... You guys especially Abakua have been a great help...
