LP classic - new and old

I have just bought a LP classic Conga, and after some adaptation from my Gon Bops I like it more and more.
I am thinking of getting a quinto and tumba to match, but I remember reading somewhere that the new models are not of as good a quality as the old ones. (mine is quite old and tatty but perfect sounding)
Should I wait for the right second hand pair somewhere?

any information on this would be welcomed.

From what I understand they are pretty much the same drum that they always were. I actually have a Conga and Tumba that were manufactured in the 80's and just ordered the quinto this week. I will let you know If I can see any difference.
Gotta agree with you as well, the LP Classics are great drums!

the difference may be in the comfort curve rim, that they put on all drums now, as opposed to the traditional rim, they used to have, as far as i am concerned i prefer the traditional rims, better, but as far as i can tell for a mass produced drum lp classics are very good sounding drums, granted you replace the cheap lp skin...

Yes, change the LP skins, they arent the best. I changed the skins on my Classics for prelapped Bauer skins from Brazil, they are thicker and drier, and I love 'em. Being Brazilian you may need to spend some time in the shop with your drum shells and rims to find the hoops skins that fit well and with a little soaking of just the playing surface and curve, not the hooped part, you will get them to fit. Mine took a while to play in, but worth the wait!!
