Good health so you could enjoy them!

Saludos!

In the recent edition of Latin Beat magazine I noticed a picture/article which If I recall correctly was a showdown between Richie Flores and Giovanni Hidalgo did you know about this or happen to be there?

I can't remember what it was for, but when you mention seeing a reunion Batacumbele I assumed this was the same event...?

Ivan,

I have not seen that magazine, but I have a feeling it was during the Batacumbele reunion in benefit of Cachete Maldonado, his founding member. (As you know I was there in rehearsals and concert).

It was not a showdown, they "shared" the spotlight in certain moments of the concert and they did their things!

Saludos!

Yes it's me and I am glad you enjoyed it! I was doing some studio work for flowdynamics (flowdynamics.com.au) and I asked if he could record me doing a bit of "freestyle". It's all in good fun!

Nsala Malecum y Kiambote!
Que Pasa mis Hermanos del tambor!
I stumbled upon this site and I think it's absolutely cool! I have read and seen the posts on this topic and was curious about something. I have four Palladiums, two 14" and two 12 1/2", I really like the bottom sound! The question that I have is, does anyone else out there who has these drums think they are somewhat impractical? They are heavy as ####! I have taken my set out no more than on four gigs, but can't see hauling them around as heavy as they are.

I use, what I call my beater drums, three Patato tumbadoras instead. On occassion, I'll take out my set (3) Fat Congas, but these are my pride and joy! They are sweet! I have tried to get Rick Bucshemi to make just one more for me, but his wife(?) keeps intercepting the message and tells me he is too busy! Oh well!

Espero que todos esten bien y en muchas bendiciones! Adelante!

Yes, the drums are heavy as fuck! :D
I have 3 palladiums 1 x 14.5" Super Tumba and 2 x 12.5" Congas. (I also have 3 classics, 2 congas and 1 tumba)

The custom bags I had made help make the lugging easier. But it dont make em any lighter. I just park as close as I can to the entry of my gig, and instead of carrying 2 at a time like I do with my Classics (which are my tambores de batalla) I carry 1 at a time with the palladiums. I can carry 2 at a time cause of the bags and their handles/straps, but only if the coast is clear for walking, if its a crowded room or venue, I will knock over everything in my path to the stage if I go 2 ata time. hehehehe.
But on stands, I have never heard better sounding congas in my life. :D

Alafia Abakua!
You know you're right, they sound incredibley sweet, especially the Super Tumbas!
I normally play seated, #### with my fat ass I might fall over otherwise. The only stands that I've been able to use have been the ones by Pearl. All the others don't seem like they'll hug the belly at the right spot and not bend the bands!

I really dug your photos (giggin'), you make the drums look good my man! Rompe ese cuero mi hermano!

I have a set (3) on order from GonBops, or whatever new manufacturer is making them now! I ordered the California models, two 13 1/4" and one 12 1/4". I have been waiting for them since March of this year! I was told they should arrive this month, Sept.

Does the climate down under have mercy on your skins?
As you can see, I live in the desert, although you wouldn't know it by all of the banana trees and tropical plants around my house!

Yeh bro, climate where I live (Sydney) is dry. Sure it rains from time to time etc, but it is not a typically humid climate.
I have no problems with my skins, then again, I do hand pick the skins, my drum shop orders in a shitload of skins, I go through and reserve the best ones for myself and my students and fellow conguero friends.

Cojelo con take-it-easy mi hermano!

Alafia Abure Abakua!
I hope that you are well and in an abundance of blessings!

I wanted to ask you what type of stand do you use for your Palladiums?
As I had mentioned I use the lower scale stands from Pearl ($59) and they seem to work alright!

Peace!
Tony

Gracias brother, espero que te encuentres muy bien also. :)

As for the stands I use, for the Palladiums, I use LP's collapsible cradle stands with legs, firm, heavy duty stands, drums do not move at all and stability is perfect. They are a bit more expensive normally, (i got a good deal as a result of partial endorsement) but the sturdiness and quality is second to none. Best stands I have ever used in all my life. From the catalogue the part number is LP636

As seen been modelled by yours truly below: :p

For the stand that holds the Super Tumba, I had to cut the legs from the top by about 8cm approx so that when the drum was in it, it would sit at the same height as the others.
I use the stands at their widest settings and as for height, no need to have the screw in there keeping it in place, I drop the legs in there and they sit at their lowest possible stance, perfect height for me. As you know, the drums are far taller and wider than any of LP's range.

When I gig with my Classics, I use these stands however:

Saludos.

Chacho! I have a set of three of the same stands, but I thought that they would press up against the bands and affect the cosmeticness of them, in other words, bend the fuck outta them! I see that you don't have that problem though. I guess the bands are thick enough to keep that from happening! Cool! I agree they (stands) are the most sturdiest of stands with a three-point base to keep them still! I used to have a set of GonBops (14", 12" and 11") Mariano model, but believe it or not, the quinto cracked like a cold glass in hot water! But while I had them, I too modified one of the stands to accomodate the SuperTumba, so now I use it as the center piece and set up in a triangle formation. Like Giovanni when he plays with three!

I havent', as I mentioned before though, played out with my Palladiums, I mostly keep them here at home to use when I teach. I just made contact with Isaac (JCR congas) to see about ordering a set of drums from them. He said that possibly by the new year they may be producing a 13" Super Tumba, I'm considering it! I get to retire next year from my day gig, and I'm thinking of makeing them a "retirement" gift to the person who has put up with all the mess at work.......Me!:D

Each year, with my income tax return, I've invested in either a set of 3 drums, or sound equipment (PA System), so when I retire, I can go head first into the music! Que Papa Eleggua me abre camino! Maferefun Eleggua! Maferefun Olodumare!

La bendicion hermano!
