Alafia!
I get the feeling that not evey percussionist has their own mics? I learned a long time ago not to depend on a sound guy/gal to mic your equipment, for the very reasons expressed here! I have always been self contained, and as was pointed out by Smidogg, you can work with all you have to get it down to a matter of minutes to set up and tear down. Especially if you have a Rock-and-roll cart to haul your stuff in and gig bags for the rest. I use a Berhinger pre-mixer, and Sennheiser 604 mics, all of which takes only a matter of minutes to set up and tear down. Sound guys/gals (equal opportunist here), get a shit eating grin on their faces when you show up with your own stuff like this..."What, you don't trust me to mic your stuff?..." No, seriously, some of them really appreciate it when you pull your own stuff out, especially the pre-mixer. This way YOU control the mix which goes out to the mains. The rest is history. I wish I would have read this post prior to posting a new one on almost the same subject!
Many blessings!
Tony
