Hello everyone. I hope that I find you all in good health and happy times.

I finally decided to just buy them new. I got a set (one is still in transit, but the tumba is here beside me) of lp classics.

These are packaged horribly for shipping. this one had a fat hole in the box with the lug showing and damaged. They are sending me a replacemnt rubber piece. I was kind of dissapointed by that... they just ship em in a regilar old box, not even with some foam. Im wondering if this might affect the structure of the drum.

My first order of business (after tuning it up and playing it for a super long time already) is to somehoe remove the black lp logo from the head. I dont like seeing it there ande I dont need constant lp endorsment as I have already purchased the product :). anyone have any ideas on the best way to remove the logo without compromising the head? I was considering lightly sanding it, but I dont know enough to jsut step to it.

ANy feedback from you upstanding skin slappin brothers and sisters will be greatly appreciated as always..

noone has any ideas? I want to remove the logo, surely some of you must have done this. I dont like having lps branding burning into my subconscious everytime i play. I think it should be a neutral experience with impressions made by my surroundings and beats.

¡Oye Papa, dale un poco de take-it easy mi pana!
To’el mundo no responde tan rápido como quizá’ esperaras. You'll work yourself up into a frenzy brother! :p :D

Alafia Baffelson!
Espero que todo este bien contigo mi pana!

Okay, now let's get down to business! I am one who ALWAYS removes the logo on the heads, furthermore, I replace the heads on most of my drums, just for shyts and giggles mi pana!

So what I do, is get a small metal finger nail file, some soapy water, sit in front of the tube (TV), and begin the arduous task of gently scraping the "ink" off. You must be careful if you want to keep the head on the drum looking sweet. You should apply pressure very lightly to the motion so as not to 'scratch' the skin. Now there may be some lightly noticeable scratch marks, but you'll learn to live with it, or do as I do and replace the damm thang!

Hope this helps!

My recommendation is #1 change the skin! You will get much better sounds out of the classics. If not, just keep playing them and the LP logo on the skin will wear off over time. Most important is working on the chops.

Bueno Papa! You might try Isaac at funkytradition@yahoo.com. He's got some pretty great skins from JCR Percussion.

I have been getting my skins from Moperc up in Canada; moperc.com

I play a meinl conga set in which I can give a hoot less about the logo on the head... no offence but I do kinda understand... anyway I plan on changing the heads one day and I dont want to change to any other raw hide skin I want to go with a synthetic that will give me a bit more projection and overtones. I play in a heavilly carpeted place and the sound doesnt travel much from where I play I think some remo skins would sound good.

Alafia Abures!
I hope that you are all well my brothers!

Abure Baffleson, it's a case of preference once again. If your technique is well practiced, you should be able to hit a coffee can and make it sound good. What you'll find with synthetic heads is the surface is smooth, no natural dibits, you know, where the hair once was, this helps with "manoteo" when you are playing. It's much easier to travel the real estate of a drum when there is traction.
Yeah, you do have to tune and de-tune them, there's more maintenance, but you should be taking good care of your drums anyway!

Hey, what in jell (pronounced with a soft "j") do I know, I like prickly heat! :p :D

Try them out if you can at a local drum/musical instrument shop, if you feel comfortable with them....go for it. You'll sound good, once again, if your technique is where it should be my brother!

Greetings Gentlemen!

Too funny ... I was just posting about this on your other thread baffleson!

Alafia Onile! I knew you were the man for this post. When I saw the question put up there I got
a pretty good laugh cuz we were just talking about that!

Guys ... you gotta try some of these nicer skins. Plenty of projection and so much more authentic.

Peace,

Alafia Abure Rumbaman!
I hope that you are well my brother!

Okay, as for the sound, they actually sound incredibly well! I have them on a set of Patato model tumbas and also on a GonBop Supertumba, they sound better than the original skin without a doubt! Okay, anything sounds better than the Buffalo skins on LP :D

Alright, so as far as the cost, I have gotten two prices since I have ordered from him and they vary from $35.00 to $40.00 depending on whether they are for Conga, or SuperTumba size heads. I personally ask for the darker skins (preference). They are Cowhide, and are in varing thickness's. Here is the information on where to send the $, and the fact that he deals only with "Cashiers Check" or "Money Order". Hope that this is helpful!

Many blessings!
Onile!
