What heads do you guys think give the best sound on the patato quinto, conga, and tumba. Both skin and synthetic? How good are the stock lp and how much improvement is noticeable with other brands and or types.
Thanks for the help

Alafia Abure Rlan!
I hope that you are well and in an abundance of blessings!

I would have to agree with abure SkinDeep, ¿Qué pasa mi pana?, I have a friend who mounted some mule skins on his Patato set, and they sounded fantastic!

I would have to also say that the LP skins (buffalo) are decent, but I changed mine right away and found out that they weren't THAT decent! :p :D

I actually mounted some Cowhide which I purchased from Moperc.com., as for the mule skins, you can check with abure Isaac who is on this forum also, and deals for JCR percussion. You can reach him at
funkytraditions.yahoo.com

Here are the skins I mounted, and they sound flippin' great Papa!

Skins are 50% of your instrument. So improvement
in your sound is a guarantee over commercial
heads.
I sell Mule Skins, which you can find out about in
some our past forums. Over 100 players have bought
them in the past year, and they're very happy.
I have both premounted in standard sizes and
some thicker ones that are flat circles in
18 & 22 inches. Also for bongo sizes.

for more info contact me, I'd be happy to advise you..

Thanks guys,
I will be getting the Patato congas next month and wish to obtain the best sound possible from them. I am 56 and have played drums since I was 6. I do not play a trap set anymore due to leg problems. I own a few lps and meinl congas now but this will be the first triple set for me. Thanks again for saving me alot of time and jack to find what heads work best.
