Alafia Abures!
Que pasa Abakua mi pana!

I'm gonna have to agree with your statement regarding skill level. When it's all said and done, that's exactly what it come down to! I have four Palladiums, two super tumbas and two tumbas, I have tuned one of the tumbas to the point of a conga, now whether that breaks with tradition or not, eh! I could give a bleep!, the point is they (Palladiums) can respond to whatever the need is if you challenge "yourself" to do it.

Now I also have a set of Patatos, and I consider those my 'beater' drums, they can take the rigors of traveling and whatever comes, and still sound incredible (providing you have changed the buffalo heads on them). It's, once again as abure Abakua stated, up to your skill level in the end.

I myself don't have Meinls, I do have a friend who does, but I do know that he is perfectly happy with them. Go figure! :D :p

We all have our preferences and that's what makes playing/giggin fun! Just keep up the energy mis panas!

Respect!

HI All,

Like abakua said I was very impressed with the palladiums. I do not own a set of Palladiums or any or the LP drums. But have had a little chance to play on them and have heard many good percussionist play them in live settings. They are a wonderful sounding drums. I have heard them in cuban settings, d.j. settings, pop and rock settings.

admitely the percussionist I heard are professional and they would have sounded good on cheap drums. But The palladiums sounded good in all the settings that I have heard them in.

THe Drums also seem to be an investment for life. THey are biult like tanks and sound very nice. Having said that there are also alther namufacturers that make comparable equipment.

LIke Abakua said about the MEINLS try out different drums in different musical contexts.

don't buy on impulse or on others opinions. Be patient and you will find the right drums for you. You may be surprised by the drum. On this forum many people play drums from different manufacturers (MEINL, PEARL, LP, MOPERC, GON BOPS, etc..), and we all have different affinities with our drums.

THE search is only half the fun. You have begun the search.

I say the Palladiums by a knock out in the fifth round. #### Armando, put $20.00 on it for me!

So i think as for The palladium after hearing alot of recordings on them i found that their sound is close to the meinl Mongo Santamaria congas

I hope i explained my point of view correctly ???

Im sorry Gilbert, but I could not disagree with you more.

The Mongo Santamaria Meinls, are no comparison to the LP Gio Palladiums.

If you look closely in one of my pics you will see 2 Meinl Mongo series between my Classics and my Palladiums.

I had the opportunity of testing them out at a rehearsal and large afro cuban performance and was utterly dissapointed with their sound, as were the other musicians in the band I was playing with and also several other latin percussionists who were at the venue observed the Meinls. No one was impressed. While the Meinls had good wood, nice finish and good hardware, their sound and projection lacked crispyness, volume and had little if any projection compared to my Classics and my Palladiums.
An opinion which was echoed by all the latin percussionists present that night.

I have toured extensively with the Palladiums, Classics and Gio Galaxy's. Their projection, crispyness and sound are second to none.

When you know how to tune drums correctly, in particular the Gio Palladiums (which use more lugs) the projection is unbelievable. I am one of very few conga players to own the Palladiums in Sydney, percussionists who are at my gigs are always blown away by their sound and projection.

I even turned down a Meinl endorsement because I would not sacrifice my sound over free gear. I cannot endorse something I do not believe in, nor can I reccommend them to my students as I am simply not impressed by them.

Even after extensive tuning sessions with the Mongo drums and experimentation in seating settings, both on wood and carpet, and also on stands, they simply are not even on the same level as the Gio Galaxy's, Classics, and Palladiums as far as sound projection, tone definition and clarity.
The LP's are in a totally different ball game and far ahead of the Meinl Mongo's.

Even our member here 'Pidoca' who is a Meinl endorser was blown away by the projection and sound of my Palladiums when he was over at my house for lessons.

I mean not to offend, but sincerely believe you are mistaken in your view.

Dont forget your compairing two drums at different price ranges all the times I looked at the LP Galaxy and other higher quality congas they were really pricey... I mean if your a pro and your get paid to do your thing and have enough mulla to go with the top dogs thats great, but remember not everyone fits that category you have money thats an object, playing situations thats an object, skill level etc.

I just got the Meinl luis artist series and I love it, granted I never played LP's top of the line drums and prolly never will because for what I play drums for I dont need a set that would cost what my car does :-) I dont get paid to play as do a lot of you, I just play for church and then at home for the pure enjoyment in learning and I have found the drums I have played so far suit me fine at the price I paid. So in the end you get what you pay for most of the time, other times you can afford to pinch on either side depending what elements you want to suffer and how much you want it to suffer quality vs money I balance them out and see where that all falls in my situation and thats what I go with, it worked this far :-)

Just thought I would throw out a little flabb :-)

brother bataboom, Im not the one who compared the Meinl Mongo's to being like the Palladiums. :;):
My response was to clarify the distinction between what was posted about the drums by brother Gilbert.

Original topic of this conversation by brother Tonio was Galaxy Gio's vs Palladium Gio's.
I'm still lusting over the Palladiums, but they are 32" tall?/ woah Can I get em in a bag?

How are the GioGalaxy? Just about the same price >$20-$40 less.

Anyone compare the 2?

Tonio, if you dont mind lugging the extra weight, then the Palladiums are the winner hands down.
Bigger sound, bigger projection, outstanding drums built like tanks.

Galaxy Gio's are also great drums.

Go with what feels right to YOU, play both, try out other drums, go with what YOU prefer.

Both drums are light years ahead of the Meinl Mongo's. :;):

Abakua, Thanks for your thoughts, and keeping to the thread :D

I agree with you that I need to make the decision on my own. Actually I'm rather picky about congas-who'd a thought  At one time I had Skin onSKins, LP, Gon Bops, Toca , Meinl all at one time. Actually it may have been overwhelming, because I liked them all !!

At the moment I have LP classic (custom finish) and LP Valje.
LP's are great for projection and all around compatibility and consistancy. Change skins, and you can get a different tone that you want. Since its a big purchase $$$, I thought I would get some opinions from the Conga board padres!!

I do have to make a few other purchases besides congas, so it may be a hard decision.

Thanks agian.
