Samson 7 pcs. drum mics. - Good also for congas?

I came across an offer for a set of Samson 7pcs Drum mics, 8-chan Behringer mixer (phantom powered) and seven 25' mic lines for $650. Everything is just a few months old and like new (even the boxes).

My question is about the mics: are the mountings on these mics compatible with "comfort curve" rims? And how good do these mics perform?

You know, you will probably have problems with the “comfort” rims and these mics, I know that I sure did. There are some solutions however, I’m attaching some pics of some mic clips that you might try to match up with the mics themselves, depending on your preference.

The problem with the mics and these mounting devices is that the mics appear to have a built-in clamping device. You will need to figure out how to take them off if you choose, and then put a regular mic clip on the “d-vice” in order to hold the mics in place.


The ones that I use for my Sennheisers E-604s are the Audix D-Clamp (check out the pic below). I hope that this is helpful to you mi pana!

If you are able to remove the mic clip that come with the mics, then you can use one of these (which are unbreakable), to hold your mics and mount them on the d-vice you choose.

I'm buying the set mainly for drumset use, but mics are mics and drums are drums, so why not using 'em on the congas and timbales also?

My concern about the built-in clamps is that when I saw the set a few days ago it seemed to me that the clamps were fixed to the casing of the mics at a comfortable angle for drumset applications, but now I don't remember if there was any swivel or something for changing the angle; follow me?

Also, I've heard this mics do a good job both in the studio and on stage when used on a drumset, but what about other percussion instruments. I've read good reviews about the condensers (C02 - x2) that comes in this pack, but what about the "drum mics"? Are they good picking the conga drum full range of sounds?

Edit: As you might see, in the attached link to Samson page the mics seem to be quite adjustable, but clamp's teeth don't seem to be wide enough to fit comfort curves.

Please, anybody familiar with Samson's drum mics enlighten me!!!

Hello Dannydrumperc,

I have the Samson Q snare, toms, and kick. So far I am quite pleased with the reproduction of sound.

Congas, clave, agogo, maracas and djembe all sound good.

As far as comfort curve fit goes ... well it's not that great. They will clip on and stay, but seem to be in the way.
The attachment shown by Onile of the adapters seems to be a good solution.
Easier to move around / carry than mic stands and look like they will allow more "hand-room".

Let me know what you think of the sound when they arrive!
