trouble is....my drums are stuck in a container and I can't get them out at the mo' :(

Does anyone know where I can get my mits on a reasonable conga down here?

Cheers!

Hey bro! Plenty of good percussionists in Melbourne, check out the clubs, venues, festivals, approach the percussionists, maybe they can refer you to a second hand drum. If you run into Pipo or Harvey (Javier) tell them Marcelo from Sydney says hello!
If you are after something new, go check out Billy Hydes in Melbourne, give em a call. I use them for all my percussion needs via their Sydney store.

Don't say that.... :(

I had to declare them coming into Australia - you wouldn't believe how strict they are down here about quarantine - Don't think they worried so much about drugs in my congas - more worried about bugs in my congas!
I wouldn't mind, but I come from the uk - English bugs wouldn't last two seconds down here :)

Alafia Abure Hairy!
I hope that you are well and in an abundance of blessings!

Did I understand you right, you have a set of Bauer Congas?

I have been looking at those on-line, but went to Rhythm Traders and found an article which wasn't too positive about them. It stated that, a merchant here in the states had received a shipment of them to sell, but that many of the drums were coming apart between the staves. I don't know if this is necessarily true mind you, but it made me think twice before ordering any.

So how long have you had yours? How do you like them? well evidentally you must think well of them to have brought them with you right? When you get a chance can you post a pic or two of them?

Many blessings!

Hola Onile!

I've had a Bauer Conga and tumba for about a year now - they are from their vintage range and are beautiful -they have traditional rims and steer heads which sound gorgeous.
My teacher in London had ( still has) a set of three of their drums which he plays hard and gigs with and he's never had any problems!
I took a long time looking at all the drums out there - so many of them are just mass produced - and then you always have to buy good quality heads to replace the standard ones - but not with the Bauers - they come with lovely thick steer hide as standard - also the cost.......My set of 2 drums cost me about GBP 600.00 ;I think it would cost me an awful lot more if I wanted as good a sound from other drum makers.......

ANYWAY!.......sorry for going on about it........you can tell I love my drums! :D
Just can't wait to get them out of storage.......I'll try and post some pics when I can.

Happy Slapping!

Hairy,

I played some Bauers at a Wembley Drum show a couple of years ago and was impressed with their warm tones. Spot on about the skins, I have been singing out about the skins in another thread and put a set on my LP Classics, they rock!!

Bugs?? I dont think its the British bugs the Aussies should worry about its the Brasilian ones!!

Hope you are reunited soon
