Where to buy premounted steer skins?

I have a set of LP Classics and I'd like to get some new skins. I've read that steer is the way to go for the older style sound, but I've had trouble finding premounted skins. I'd appreciate it if you guys could direct me to a site or a place around Chicago.

Hey Acopalips,

I have LP Classics and put some Bauer Skins on them, they are much thicker and they sound great, the quinto cracks, the conga sings and the tumba booms.
I suggest that you take your drums to the store and check they fit first as, being Brasilian, the quality of build of the premounted ones vary. I tried a whole shipment at the importers before I chose.
They will take about six weeks of playing, de tuning and tuning, to kick in, but you wont regret

The prices on the Steerhide skins at Volcano Percussion is $50.00 and $55.00 for the two different sizes. This price is for the flat skin, and not the premounted.

Mounting your own skins is a fairly simple process. If you need instructions on how to do it, the VP website has a step by step instruction page to help you. And yes, the Steerhide head will give you that "Old School" sound that you are looking for.

I got an unmounted piece of steer from a someplace in wisconsin (I think ) ??? only cost me about 25 pounds sterling including postage.

And it really is exciting to mount your own skin - very exciting - and when you hear the difference it makes!!!!!
