BTW: been listening to a band that frequents your area called Motet. Percussionist is quite the conguero!
The sax player, Dominic, was in a band here called Short Bus.

Hey guys,, The cajon is made by a friend of mine that plays in our group. Name's Marshall. The head's about 10" square, and the base is 5 1/2" square. The length is 11" pyramidic.

Aye Cap'n, I know the Motet! Really love what they do when Jans is in the group! He's the great singer.
Scott, the conguero is a stand-offish sort who's hard to get to know, but quite good.

I got very eager to start new topic with how did youngsters that i work with, made some cajons, but it doesn't post, it even doesn't tell me if anything is wrong, it just brings me back to main menu...

Hi Primozz, you don't attach images in the forum,,, you imbed them.
Step 1 hit reply
Step 2 select the image button - it's between [Code] and [Flash]
Step 3 select the URL for the image.

Of course you need the image stored in your website for this to work.

If you are trying to attach/upload the pic from a file/folder on your computer using the "browse" button and its not linking it up, its because your pic is too big in KB.
You need to use an image resizer to reduce the image in file size.
I normally reduce my pics to around 70-90KB

Image size limit for posts using this feature on Congaplace.com is Maximum file size (in bytes): 5120000

Image resizers can be downloaded free of charge from the internet.. Try using a local search engine to locate one.

what i'd really like to know is how do they perform vis a vis a real conga. I tried some wooden congas and bongos on one of my trips to old San Juan in Puerto Rico. They were made by an artisan. The had a good 90% imitation sound of an open tone bongo and conga, but, as I suspected, you couldn't bend the tone of the drum with pressure, nor perform variations of the open slap/open crack very well (I could get a semi-ok closed slap).

If you're a professional conguero...why would you sacrifice the superior sound of skin (real or synthetic) for a wooden imitation?

What do others have to say on this?

Firebrand,, as for the differences in the conga and cajon,, I know what you mean.. However, I play the boxes because my friends do (not because I prefer their sound), and when in Colorado, you play like a Coloradoan.. But, they play them because great Rumberos in several of our favorite DVDs play them, and many great teachers we've collectively run across will play box Rumbas.

I've grown to appreciate it quite a bit now. We play a great deal of box/conga Rumba now, where everyone plays multiple drums for more variation of the overall sound. We're presently in the simplification stage where less is better, though.

No question, if you just hit one tone on a box, no matter how well made, then one note on a conga, you're going to chose the conga every time.
