New Pearl Folkloric Congas?

I was just checking out Steve Weiss webpage and saw these. They look like nice drums. Has anybody played them? What are your reactions?

Seems like Pearl has been really trying to make a legit name for themselves in the Afro-Cuban percussion market. They're even selling a mountable guagua!

I think they look quite nice, I like the retro look, not too overdone but maybe something besides the sunburst finish would be nice too.

I imagine they sound decent, given that they seem to put some thought into the heads, unlinke other companies we know...

They're even selling a mountable guagua!


It's about time! I always thought the jam-block-as-guagua was an obnoxious innovation.

It's an interesting marketing tack though - my impression is that interest in Cuban folkloric stuff (in the US anyway) kind of peaked in the late 90's - and has tapered off since, perhaps due to the current administration's cuban travel policies. Anyone else feel that way, or is it just me?
