Well, I've been making some investments for my future band and just decided to buy this set for $290 including shipping. I bought the matching Djembe... just came in today, and doesn't sound that great. I figure it needs to be tuned.
Here's the set. I am starting a new band, and the percussion player is new, but I'm hoping these sound decent in a live environment, like small coffee shops, malls, etc...
I figure with the matching congas, stands, and bags this was a good deal including shipping. Am I right?

Jbroad welcome,You will have to change the heads, I have seen similar congas all the same with different brand names , but made in the same place China. The heads they have on now are too thin and makes the drum sound too metalic or thingy. If you make the change, those heads can be used on the bongo hembra in the future, is about the right thickness.

There are now a total of 9 similar brands being made out of the same
humongous factory in Thailand. These look like Schalloch,
a subdivision of Gemany based Meinl, the first company to go to Thailand.
ALL are OK, but as Olsongo said, you need some real heads
to make these much better and sounding like they're
supposed to. After you get the better skins, keep the lugs lubricated and remember
to partially de-tune when not playing them.

Welcome to the CongaPlace !

Hmm... maybe I'll just hold off then.
Thanks for the feedback.
