Has anyone used the Remo Nuskyn tucked conga heads? If so, how do you like them?

I had one on my galaxy fiberglass conga and I hated it. Made the drum sound like a coffee can. I replaced with a LP hand picked head and it sounds 100 times better.

I bought 2 of these heads for my drums to help when I play outside festivals etc...They are good for weather and outside playing, are a bit louder than skin heads, and give a clearer easier to get tone, but The feel was what turned me off. I kept feeling like my hand was going to slip off of the nu skyns (like when you have dry hands in the winter and you have no grip or connection with the head.) With a good worn in skin head there is a solid connection when you hit it. -does that make sense? Anway, Pulled out my old water buffalo LP heads, put them back on and rubbed some African red palm oil into them. While they don't sound as clear as the nu skyns, they definatly feel better and sound more like an authentic conga. I still have the nu skyns but will use them only when necessary.

I have had them for years on my fiberglass drums. Great heads. Suond is very good. Hold a tune forever.

I use them on a set of Classics for loud amplified gigs and they work for me in that situation, but , IMHO, you can never beat the sound of skin on skin.
