I've ordered some new mule skins from Issac to put on my Meinl Marathons ( the ring of the water buffalo has finally gotten to me... LOL)

I've never reskinned any drums and have found a couple of resources for directions on the web, but I'm looking for any other resources or tips that people with actual experience have.

Like anything else in life there is always a huge difference between theory and reality

I'd just like to try and do this right and in the most efficiant manner from the start.

Any help and suggestions are really appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Chuman,

The following site (video) is the most comprehensive and clear set of instructions for mounting new skin on congas.

http://congahead.com/Movies/mounting_skins.html

In addition, check past threads here. There is a wealth of info on them. Don't let it intimidate you. You can do it. The only suggestion I would have for a first timer, is have a willing partner to help you.

Good luck

This is my favorite link/article with pictures on how to mount skins
for bongos - however it can be applied tp conga skins also.
It's by Cyrus of Bongomania:

You can catch a glimpse of Caly Rivera mounting a bongo skin
on this video link. Click to the right of the video where it says dial up.
Those are my hands sorting through some mule skins to send out.

Chuman,

Keep us posted on how you make out. Remember, one of the most important parts of the mounting processs is making sure the skin has been dried toroughly before tuning up. Once those mules are on and ready, you'll enter a whole new world of sounds.
