I have had my heart set on a set of LP Original Fiberglass congas for a couple of years now. You know the ones that are 28" tall and have the big bottoms. Would these be good for an acoustic gig with only a guitarist or should I just keep on playing my Meinl Pros? I've never played fiberglass drums before, so I'm asking you pros what you think.

Also, who has the best prices on LP drums?

The LP original fiberglass congas really project. If you have an acoustic gig with just a guitarist I think I would stick to playing wood congas. I think the LP original fiberglass congas are great, just not for that particular gig.

Jongo, thanks for the insight. My wife will love the idea that you nixed the new drums. :D
Have a wonderful day.

fiberglass are definately louder, if your guitarit is using a pickup then they would work great. Check out the LP Classics Salsa model, same config but wood.

I have to agree with Jongo. Wood is the best for
acoustic or small groups.
The warmth is lacking in fiberglass, and you'll have
trouble blending with the guitarist.
The wide bottom LPs are perfect for a large & loud
Salsa band with horns.
The LPs were designed with hard driving Salsa in mind.
In the recording studio however, many Salsa groups and
engineers also favor wood.

Which do you think I would be happier with, the Classic Salsas or just the regular Classics playing with a Guitarist using a flat top guitar and small amp?

Hey Mango, I think I might look for a set of LP Classics rather than the Salsa Classics only because I think there are more LP Classics out there and so I think you probably have a better chance of finding a good deal.
