Looking for a Conga set for my Son.

I am looking for a Conga set for my son and I saw this on Ebay. Was just wondering if it is a decent set. I have never heard of Aruba percussion so I am not sure about it. Price is probably too good to be true. Thanks in advance.

How old is your son? What level player is he? How serious is he? The threads by pros on this forum will give you great info/advice on starter sets for newbies. Do a little search. For a seriously interested newbie, lessons from a teacher are highly advised. Fundamentals and rudiments are thoroughly mastered on one drum before getting into multi-drum technique.

I've learned that investing into a good set is the way to go. I would stay away from something like that, unless we can find someone on here who owns them and has good things to say. Stick with your main brands, such as LP, Gon Bops, and Meinl.

It doesn't hurt to check Craigslist or other classifieds in your area, which would probably lead you to a good set of quality congas that are cheaper than buying new.

Since it's the holiday season, I assume you would want new. For that price range, buy a set of two LP Matador or Classics, which would be well worth it. His musical taste will dictate what size drums to buy. With congas, quality comes before quantity. I've learned that by buying a set of mediocre drums, which now has me contemplating an upgrade. I should have purchased quality from the get-go. Hope this helps.

The Skins on the Aruba Congas are awful, and have no
sound resemblance to congas. The metal hardware is very weak chrome plated
nickel. It's better to buy one good conga first. If he practices
and gets into it then buy a larger tumba size.
