Hello all...pretty seasoned bunch here.
I'm 56...drums since 63 and congas since 76...Traded a 67 Ecconoline for some Gon Bops and Camping gear. Still got the Gon Bops but camping gear is long gone

Peace

Just turned 39 two weeks ago and didn't learn to play congas until I was 37. I've been playing for slightly under two years now and I absolutely love it! I wish I could do nothing but practice for 8 hours a day and then listen to my CDs for another 8 hours!

31 years old, playing since I was 2. Used to set up my percussion on my bed like it was a drum kit. Also I remember playing a deerskin tom-tom while my dad played guitar.

Started on snare in 5th grade (one of my friends who played sax ended up playing with Patato, Eddie Palmieri & Tito Puente- small world!). Played in concert band, marching band(!) & jazz band in high school. Switched to congas in jazz band after hearing Mongo. Gigged percussion for some funk & soul bands.

I always have a song in my head and will play along on any available surface! :D Great thread!
