I was mistaken about Flaco's drum, it has different hardware... see pic... It is made of oak from Santiago de Cuba.

CongaBoard Super Member and Supreme Chop Monster Pili... aka Joseph, is playing this @#$% out of it in this pic at La Pena's Rumba a few months back.

Very nice score on these tubs, how fortunate.

Id go with a nice medium thick cow, or steer hide on these tubs. Although, if you plan on using the Oak drum as your main ride, and like Cuban music, mule would also work for that drum.

Have fun with them and pass them on to your kids... if not to one of us!!! :laugh:

Just a follow up on the history of these particular drums.
Apparently they were originally picked up by Jack 'Jakito' Duncan of Shango Ashe for a student. He brought them back from Cuba many years ago on one of his many trips to study and perform in Havana.
BTW, I haven't done any work to them yet (time constraints). However, I am getting lots of limited playing time for now and am really enjoying them.
