Hemp is a fantastic material. I've seen many examples of what it can be used for, all quite different from the soft, fibrous material we normally think of. I wouldn't be surprised by anything it can do anymore.
I use hemp rope for making drums. Of the natural materials, it stretches the least. In fact, even of the synthetic materials, hemp stretches the least of all but kevlar-core static line. It's about equal to polyester without the kevlar. It ties like cotton and doesn't wear very much.
How is this related to the sound of a conga? It's magical, folks. A terrible shame it has not been used industrially for all these years (since 1937 in the US).
