Conga skin appearance

Postby CPercussion » Sat Nov 15, 2008 12:03 am

I know what water buffalo skin looks like, because I have seen them on various recent LP and other newer congas. Light brownish and translucent.

I recently got an old LP fiberglass tumba with the traditional rim. All the scratches and the traditional rim tell me this tumba has been around the block. The skin on it is whitish and opaque, with what seems to be hair stubbles all pointing in one direction. You cannot feel the stubbles -- seems like the skin was shaved until smooth, but you can see the hair stubbles. Is this what rawhide skin looks like?

Frankly, as I am new to congas I only know what water buffalo skin looks like.
